One of the most notable coaches of the Houston Oilers was Bum Phillips. He was the head coach from 1975 to 1980 and is widely remembered for leading the team to two consecutive AFC Championship games in 1978 and 1979. Phillips was known for his distinctive cowboy hat and his folksy personality which made him popular among his players and fans.
